MS Dhoni has played down the buzz surrounding the back injury he suffered in yesterday’s game against Kings XI Punjab stating that it was not something too serious to be concerned about. Dhoni looked in fine form last night as he hit 79 off 44 but ended up falling short of the target by four runs.

It was a stunning return for West Indian powerhouse Chris Gayle last night, who reminded everyone how deadly he still can be with the bat. His 22-ball fifty guided Punjab to a decent total of 197/7 after 20 overs at Mohali to hand Chennai Super Kings a competitive total to chase down. CSK openers, Murali Vijay and Shane Watson failed to give the boys from Chennai the start they required, and the hero of the previous match, Sam Billings also departed early without doing much damage.

It was at this crucial moment in the game that CSK skipper MS Dhoni stepped up and took charge of the match in a knock that turned back the clock for Indian cricket fans all across the globe. His sheer power and raw strokes helped him score 79 off 44 deliveries despite suffering a back injury during his innings as CSK lost by a narrow margin of just four runs. Dhoni played down concerns that surrounded his injury as he claimed he did not think of it as a serious knock.

"It's bad; how bad it is, I don't know. God has given me the power. I don't need to use the back a lot, the hands can do the job. But overall, we'll assess how bad it is. It shouldn't be too bad because I know what really happened and once you know the kind of injury it is, it becomes slightly easy to get out of it and also we have three-four days now before the next game. I'm quite used to playing with few injuries, whether it is back, fingers, elbow or something else. You have to be tough and get on with the game," Dhoni told Cricketnext.

Gayle starred on his return to the IPL as he ended the match with a score of 63 runs from 33 balls. Mohit Sharma and Mujeeb Ur Rahman played an impressive game last night as they managed to keep their cool and restrict the CSK batsmen throughout their innings. Dhoni’s injured back didn’t help CSK'S cause either as he had to call the team physiotherapist for treatment. But in his own fashion, the 36-year-old took fought through the pain as he took the game right till the end and started bringing in the big shots when the required rate reached 15. CSK needed 67 off 24 balls, but then Jadeja-Dhoni combo hit 9,19 and 19 runs in the 17th,18th and 19th over respectively to help them get the required run-rate down. This was CSK’s first loss of the tournament in this year’s edition of the IPL.
