CSK skipper MS Dhoni has backed Ravindra Jadeja, who has struggled a bit with the bat in this IPL, to come good in the upcoming matches. Dhoni explained that he wants to give Jadeja the opportunity at the finisher’s role and if that does not click they always have Dwayne Bravo to fall back upon.

Dhoni’s blistering unbeaten 79 was not enough for Chennai Super Kings to register another come-from-behind win. At one point the game looked dead and buried, but Dhoni single-handedly took CSK close but eventually fell 4 runs short of the target. Dhoni found little support from the other end as Jadeja struggled on his initial few deliveries before hitting a six off his 12th ball. The question raised was why Dwayne Bravo, who won CSK the opening game, wasn’t promoted ahead of Jadeja.

“It's a difficult one. And Fleming is in the dugout, so he needs to take that decision. And, we have confidence in Jadeja also, one of the reasons is that being a left-hander, it's not easy to consistently bowl to a left-hander and also this is the time that we can give him that opportunity to express himself,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.

The former Indian captain also felt that the team can always fall back upon Dwayne Bravo if things go wrong in the coming games and he feels Jadeja deserves a longer run.

“If he doesn't do . Bravo is an experienced one, he can always go back and do the job for us. But overall, Jadeja is somebody who can do it for us and that'll be really good because Raina at the top, one left-hander, and if you have Jadeja who can do the job as a floater, that really makes it difficult for the opposition to plan their bowing. Unless we give him an opportunity; so far we have never really given him the kind of opportunity that he really deserves, so I will definitely back him to come good in the coming games,” the 36-year-old CSK skipper added.

CSK have an experienced squad and the age of most of the players in the starting XI is over 30. Hence, Dhoni felt that they might not be an extraordinary fielding side, but they can be safe.

“Fielding, we can't improve, so I won't really say that. So, we'll be a safe fielding side; we won't be an extraordinary fielding side. We'll just have to make sure that when we are under the pump from the batsmen, what are the boundaries that we can omit, what are the easy deliveries that we are not supposed to give because good batsmen will hit you and throughout the IPL it is something they will have to go through. Just that if you keep cutting one or two boundaries here and there, at the end of the game, you'll realise those were the six or eight runs that really made the difference,” Dhoni said.

Dhoni also suffered a back injury while batting but he feels it’s not too bad and that he’s used to playing with a few injuries here and there. However, he has four days to recover as the next CSK game is on Friday (April 20) against Rajasthan Royals at the MCA Stadium in Pune, the new home ground for CSK.
