Sunrisers Hyderabad wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha has admitted that skipper Kane Williamson brings positive vibes to the team and the squad is gelling well under him. He also revealed that opening the innings has been a big plus for him as he can utilize the field restrictions during the powerplay.

In the absence of David Warner, the SRH think-tank decided to appoint Kane Williamson as the captain right in the eleventh hour. And the results so far, have been flawless with SRH topping the table and are the only side unbeaten in the tournament. According to SRH opener Saha, Williamson has been a good leader and the team has got along well under his leadership.

“Kane is always open to suggestions from teammates during the game. He gives us freedom and he remains very relaxed, calm and brings positive vibes. Under him, our team bonding is very good,” Saha was quoted saying by TOI.

Saha, who has mostly been a middle-order batsman in IPL so far, was surprisingly promoted to open the batting in Warner’s absence and has done brilliantly alongside Shikhar Dhawan. It has been a blessing in disguise for SRH so far as the Bengal stumper has utilized the fielding restrictions to good effect.

“I like to play my natural game. The coach (Tom Moody) and captain (Kane Williamson) have backed me on this and I have got opportunity to open the innings, which is a plus point. They have told me to play with freedom and play my natural shots,” the 33-year-old wicket-keeper said.

Saha has had two starts in three games so far, where he has scored 51 runs in 3 innings. He will want to convert those starts into substantial scores and will most probably continue to open in the upcoming games.

“This depends on team management. If I do well as an opener, I will be entrusted to take up the responsibility but if I don't come up to their expectations, then they may think of other options. But I want to even better my performance,” the SRH wicket-keeper added.

The Hyderabad team has one of the best bowling attacks in IPL, which has been one of the prime reasons why they are still unbeaten in the tournament, alongside the very good bench strength.

“Apart from the bowlers who are in the playing XI, we have fantastic bench strength. Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar), Rashid Khan, Siddarth (Kaul), Shakib (Al Hasan), Billy Stanlake have been bowling well and have helped restrict the opposition to totals in the 150 region,” Saha further said.

Apart from his good IPL performances, Saha has also scored a 20-ball 102 (which included 14 sixes and 4 fours) in a T20 inter-club game in Kolkata. But, it hasn’t changed the 33-year-old’s perception as a Test specialist. But he revealed that he was always fond of the shortest format of the game.

“I always liked playing T20 from the start and enjoy this format. Earlier on, in KXIP, I got few opportunities to play the shorter format of the game. I also got a chance to play the Tests but whatever opportunity you get, you have to perform and my aim is to contribute and help my team win,” Saha said.
