Justin Langer in line to replace Darren Lehmann as coach of the Australian cricket team
Justin Lee Langer has been rumored to be Cricket Australia’s replacement as coach of the Australian cricket team after the resignation of Darren Lehmann post the ‘Sandpapergate’ incident. Lehmann opted to step down from his role even though he was cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident.
The heat which surrounded the events that occurred in South Africa last month may have died down in recent times, but the people who were involved in it will bear the scars of the whole controversy for the rest of their lives. One such individual was former Australian coach Darren Lehmann, who was cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident by Cricket Australia post a thorough investigation that they had conducted.
But that wasn’t enough to stop the senior coach from parting ways with the team, who announced his resignation after an emotional press conference of tainted skipper Steven Smith. Now, former Australian batsman Justin Langer has been rumoured to be the top choice to replace Lehmann as head coach of the Australian cricket team.
“The process to be undertaken for the appointment of a new Australian men’s head coach will be discussed and agreed at the CA board meeting this Friday. No appointment has been made and nor will any candidate be put to the board for ratification on Friday.We expect to have a clearer understanding of the approach and appointment
However, things might be different in the Australian dressing room this time around as CA has also been rumoured to be considering different coaches for different formats of the game. Langer
Langer, who has coached Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers for the past five seasons, where he has overseen three Big Bash crowns and two one-day titles, admitted that the travelling burden would be the major issue that could hinder his appointment.
“If the opportunity came up, there would be a lot to consider.The complication is that I love my job. I love being on the board of the West Coast Eagles. I love being with my family all the time and (coaching) would mean travelling 11 months of the year,” Langer said.
