IPL 2018 | Rohit batting in the middle order gives MI a great balance, feels Robin Singh
Mumbai Indians head coach, Robin Singh, feels that the MI skipper batting at number three has given them flexibility and provided the team with good balance. Rohit made a thrilling comeback by scoring 94 runs off 52 balls against RCB, which also helped him win their first match of the campaign.
Rohit Sharma’s brilliant record as India’s opener in the limited-over format had made him a logical and obvious choice for Mumbai Indians too. However, deviating from the obvious the explosive batsman has been seen batting at number three for MI this season so far, and coach Robin Singh has been of the opinion that he gives support and balance in the middle-order.
“Rohit in the middle order gives the team a great balance. Lewis as an opener has done exceptionally well. I don’t think we need to have explosive players everywhere. You need to have a combination of different players in the line-up. Rohit can play any role for us and that is the important thing,” said Robin in the pre-match press conference at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur on Saturday.

However, he also stated that early wickets in the second innings would put a lot of pressure on the team.
“Scoreboard pressure is scoreboard pressure. I think most teams prefer to chase now because the batting is quite deep. Being a Twenty20 game, the wickets are more batting friendly. There is a lot of dew in this part of the world in this time of the year. I don’t care what people say that they prefer to chase. If one restricts teams in the first six overs while chasing 180-190, there is always pressure,” Robin Singh said.
