Dilip Vengsarkar has lashed out on Ajit Agarkar and other Mumbai selectors, by stating that they have no right to act as selectors if they don't pay heed to the local matches. Referring to the careless gesture of the selectors, Vengsarkar believes the efficient players will be overlooked.

As Ajit Agarkar and the panel of Mumbai selectors went on to select players for the Mumbai fitness camp, there have been allegations that they have not followed the local matches to analyse the efficiency of players in top form. A list of 27 probable candidates has been given for attending the off-season camp by Ajit Agarkar and company. Parsee Gymkhana’s cricket secretary and vice president Khodadad Yazdegardi has made an accusation against the selectors that they did not pay any heed to the local matches to determine the top in-form players.

Yazdegardi has involved 30 signatures from the members of Mumbai Cricket Association to gather a Special General Meeting (SGM) last week, seeking to remove the selectors to the Committee of Administrators. Former Indian skipper Dilip Vengsarkar has also criticised Ajit Agarkar and the selectors because of their careless act.

“If the selectors don’t have time to watch local matches, they shouldn’t be there, because there’ a lot at stake for the players. If the players aren’t picked because the selectors don’t follow their performances, they’ll feel disheartened. This is the first time in the history of Mumbai cricket that it’s been pointed out by an affiliated club member, which doesn’t speak highly of the selectors,” Vengsarkar told TOI.

“Since the players have performed and they’ve been overlooked, it shows the selectors in poor light, because if they don’t have time to watch (local) matches, they shouldn’t be there. As simple as that. It isn’t fair for the players. In fact, they’re playing with the careers of the players. If they don’t get an appropriate opportunity as per their performances, because the selectors haven’t watched them, it’s very unfortunate indeed. It's’ very important for the players to get an opportunity at the right time. Otherwise, the players will feel let down,” he said.

Ajit Agarkar and team made an addition of seven more players in the Mumbai fitness on Monday, stating the decision taken was independent of any influence, referring to Yazdegardi campaign. However, the sources report that the decision was taken last week. Nilesh Kulkarni, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sunil More, former Indian players share the selection panel with Ajit Agarkar.
