It’s not always easy for a young cricketer to step onto the big stage for the first time and hit one out of the part and that too, with comfortable ease. Rishabh Pant hit a maximum off only the second delivery he faced in Test cricket at Trent Bridge, courtesy of English spinner - Adil Rashid.

Virat Kohli-led India headed to Trent Bridge with only one thing on their mind - a win. After England won the toss and elected to bowl first, India got off to a good start in the crucial third Test with openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul getting some runs on the board early during the day.

After the duo were dismissed, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane put on a strong show as they made their way to individual half-centuries and also recorded a 159-run partnership. However, Kohli was dismissed for 97 off an Adil Rashid delivery which allowed Rishabh Pant, who came into the team in place of Dinesh Karthik, to make his Test debut for India.

And what better way to begin his Test career than to get off to the mark with a six. The young lad, who was spectacular for Delhi Daredevils this year, smashed an Adil Rashid delivery for a six, right after Kohli’s dismissal. Pant hit a colossal strike straight down the ground as he read the googly from Rashid to perfection. In doing so, Pant became the first Indian batsman to open his Test account with a maximum. The shot was enough to bring a smile or two to the Indian dressing room which became a bit gloomy after the dismissal of Kohli and Rahane.
