Adelaide would be remembered for India’s historic win and their bowlers’ persistence, but it will also be remembered for Rishabh Pant’s antics throughout the game. Today, while it was mostly the pacers who operated, he had to stand behind the stumps, but still came forward to irritate the Aussies.

The beauty of uncluttered youth is the promise of limitless possibilities - of new ideas and perspectives. It is why a promising youngster has been burdened with so much of expectations when he plays, but Rishabh Pant, it seems, has risen beyond that and in his short duration as India’s first-choice keeper, he speaks like a senior pro in the team.

In the last match, he sledged Pat Cummins continuously and didn’t even let Usman Khawaja bat peacefully. He was helped by the fact that Ravichandran Ashwin was operating for a major period of time in the game, and Pant had to keep close to the stumps. As pacers were the predominant feature in the Perth Test, Pant had to go back far behind the stumps, which made him almost invisible in the camera.

However, when Mohammed Shami was going back on his follow through, Pant decided to come forward to send a word or two for Shami, but that was intentioned to Marcus Harris. Harris was uninterrupted by that and scored a composed 70 to take the hosts to a position of strength.
