Rishabh Pant has been unusually chirpy behind the stumps in the series so far, not leaving any stone unturned to get under the skin of Aussies. However, he remained silent today after Jasprit Bumrah’s bouncer went for a bye four and Adam Gilchrist pointed that on air before taking a sly dig at him.

Pant’s bat may have remained silent in the last Test, but he was terrific behind the stumps as he took eleven catches to equal the world record. His chatter with the bowlers and batsmen in an equal measure also made him a popular character, so much so that Fox Sports stopped their commentary to let people enjoy the antics. However, India’s plan to go with four pacers in the Perth Test meant fans had to satisfy themselves with the limited clippings possible.

However, when he got a brief chance today, he went near the stumps to make a statement or two to encourage bowlers. The youthful exuberance made Adam Gilchrist, who was probably the best in Pant’s clan in cricket with his aggressive personality and hitting, fond a connect to Pant in the commentary box and was quite vocal about it as well.

Today, when a vicious ball by Jasprit Bumrah took off from a length and seamed away to go above Pant’s head for a boundary, it made the latter more careful about his approach. He stopped coming forward and decided to focus more on collecting the balls, which made Gilchrist take a sly dig at him on air after few minutes.

“He is quite chirpy as a character naturally. But after that Bumrah delivery, he has almost gone silent,” the former Aussie wicket-keeper said while being on air with Harsha Bhogle as all of them had a laugh about it.
