After being adjudged Man of the Match in the second Test against India, Nathan Lyon has expressed that it feels really great to play a role in a team victory. He also mentioned that the wickets of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were special ones for him in the Perth Test which concluded today.

With a total of eight wickets in the Perth Test, off-spinner Lyon played a great role for the home team as they won the second game of the series against India to level it 1-1 at the Optus Stadium. A lot was discussed about the pitch at the newly-built stadium being favourable for the pacers but the offie proved his skills by claiming five wickets in the first innings. He pocketed three wickets in the second innings including that of Kohli as the Aussies defeated India by 146 runs.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Lyon said, "It is amazing to play a role in a team victory and to have the support here in Perth and all around Australia has been fantastic. Thanks for all the support. It's pretty fair to say we have been in drought and to wrap up their tail pretty quickly was special.”

Lyon broke the 91-run partnership between Kohli and Rahane in the first innings as he got rid of the Indian vice-captain for 51. In the second innings as well, he was at his best with the bowling and got the wicket of skipper Kohli to reduce the visitors to 48/3 in the run-chase.

Speaking about his bowling style, Lyon explained, “My role changed a fair bit to a more attacking role in Adelaide to a defending role here. Definitely, those two wickets (Virat and Rahane) are special. Virat is the number one player in the world, to compete against him and to be able to take his wicket is pretty special.”

“Pant is a wonderful striker of the ball, he's a special talent and it's always a great challenge to bowl to him. My brother (Brendan Lyon) has been helping me with the batting. I am not a very good batter, so I am trying to improve a little bit and play my role.”
