PCB to pay 60% of the BCCI’s legal expenses, directs ICC
International Cricket Council has directed the Pakistan Cricket Board to pay sixty percent of Board of Control for Cricket in India’s legal expenses to them. The Pakistani board had sued the Indian cricket board to claim compensation for backing out of the commitment to play bilateral series.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appealed to the International Cricket Council (ICC) against Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a compensation of 70 million rupees claiming that the BCCI failed to honor its contract to play bilateral series from the year 2014. But the Pakistani board lost the claim and in turn, the BCCI after winning the battle filed a counterclaim to the ICC for the legal expenses.
“The Dispute Panel has determined that the PCB should pay 60 percent of: “(a) the [BCCI’s] Claimed Costs; and (b) the administrative costs and expenses of the Panel which fall within the scope of paragraph 11.4 of the T/R (including, without limitation, the fees of the Tribunal members, and the costs and expenses they incurred in relation to this matter), the figure whereof is to be supplied to the PCB by the ICC,” said the ICC statement.
After this decision, PCB will not only have to pay sixty-percent compensation to BCCI but will also have to bear the administrative costs and expenses of the dispute Panel including their fee etc.Â
After winning the case against the PCB, Committee of Administrators(CoA) head Vinod Rai had expressed his satisfaction at the result and had also stated that the board will file for a compensation claim against the PCB to extract the cost of arbitration.
“We will make a presentation to the panel and demand the entire cost of compensation to be borne by the PCB for the arbitration where their claims have been dismissed,” he had said.
