Veteran women's pacer Jhulan Goswami believes that a strong training routine has helped her achieve greater success as far as her bowling is concerned. Goswami recently became the first woman cricketer to have reached the landmark milestone of 200 wickets during the second ODI against South Africa.

Breaking records seems to have become a trend in Indian cricket of late as the U-19 Indian team sealed a historic win a week ago and lifted the U-19 World Cup. On the other side of the world, the Indian senior team went 3-0 up in a bilateral series against South Africa for the first time as skipper Virat Kohli hit his 34th ODI Century and became the highest-scoring Indian captain while MS Dhoni’s direct involvement in 400 dismissals made him just the fourth keeper ever to reach that mark.

And most recently, Jhulan Goswami - one of the flagbearers of women's cricket in the country - also became the first woman cricketer to claim 200 wickets in the second ODI against South Africa at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley. The ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year 2007, Arjuna Awardee, Padma Shri winner was at one point in time was the fastest bowler in women's cricket and has been an integral part of the Indian women's team since her debut in 2002. After achieving the unprecedented landmark, Goswami thanked her training regime for being able to play this long despite being a fast bowler.

"I do a lot of training. I believe in my training. As a fast bowler, you have to train hard as there are a lot of ups and downs. When things aren't working my way, it is the process that counts. I strongly believe that my training regime has helped me a lot because there is a lot of wear and tear. Injuries happen, but our schedule is such that we play one series, then we get a break of one or two months. So, I have got time to recover," Goswami told bcci.tv

The 35-year-old, who was playing her 166th ODI, dismissed SA opener Laura Wolvaardt for her 200th wicket and that also makes Goswami the highest wicket-taker in women's cricket history with 290 International wickets including Tests, ODIs and T20I’s.

"Whatever milestone you have achieved, it feels good (only) when you are on the winning side. It was important for us to win. The points are important as it is the ICC Women's Championship, a qualifying event for the ICC Women's World Cup 2021. So, more than the 200 wickets, it was important to take the two points from each and every match," added the former India captain.

Reaching the milestone was made sweeter by the dominant performance put in by the women's team as they raced to a 178-run victory over South Africa in the 2nd ODI of the ICC Championship match. Goswami claimed one wicket in her spell as the match belonged to Indian batters - Smriti Mandhana (135), Harmanpreet Kaur (55*) and Veda Krishnamurthy (51*).
