Video | Yuzvendra Chahal does Jasprit Bumrah, gets wicket on a NO ball
The one thing more frustrating than not getting wickets is to get them on NO-balls, and thanks to Jasprit Bumrah Team India are well acquainted with it. However, Saturday saw Yuzvendra Chahal doing the same, as he dismissed David Miller on a No-ball, who later played a significant role in SA win.
In the rain-interrupted fourth ODI played in Johannesburg, the Indian cricket team faced their first defeat in the ODI series as their set total of 289 runs fell short at the end after SA
While chasing the target, South Africa lost their first wicket in the form of Aiden Markram after putting 43 runs on the scoreboard. It was a do-or-die game for the home team, who were trailing the series 3-0. However, they were well supported by the weather and India's wrist spinner, Chahal, who ended up giving a lifeline to the dangerous Miller that proved to beĀ fatal in the later stages.
The incident occurred in the last delivery of the 18th over, when the hosts were on 106/4 with Miller on the strikeĀ and Heinrich Klaasen on the other end. Chahal's excellent dipping delivery had totally outfoxed Miller whose attemptedĀ sweep saw the ball squeezeĀ in underneath his bat and through the pads to the wickets.Ā The South AfricanĀ batsman, who hasn't had a good tournament so far, was moving towards to the dugout after scoring just seven runs with a familiar disappointment on his face, as the Indians celebrated.
However, the celebrations soon turned into disappointment when the umpires decided toĀ checkĀ on the big screen and found that the spinner had overstepped the popping crease by quite a distance while releasing the ball. The on-field umpire didnāt waste a second to overturn his decision and handed a free-hit opportunity to the batsman.
Interestingly, four balls earlier in the same over, Miller had got another lifeline through Shreyas Iyer's missed catch. The hard-hitting southpaw wasn't going to let this opportunity slip and went on to score a quick 39 runs that brought South Africa extremely close to the target. The Proteas eventually won the game by five wickets.Ā
This is, however, not the first time that the Indian team has been victim to such an unfortunate incident. Pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has done this twice- once during the 2017 Champions Trophy final against Pakistan, when India lost toĀ Fakhar Zamanās century who had been dismissed on a no-ball by Bumrah in the early stages of the game, and secondly, during the last series against Sri Lanka back at home, where Upul Tharanga was dismissedĀ on another of his no-ball.
