India women vs South Africa women | Mithali Raj leads India to second consecutive T20I win against hosts

After a convincing win in the first match of the series, the Indian women continued their dominating display in the African continent by beating the hosts by 9 wickets. Batting first, South Africa posted a total of 142/7, which India comfortably chased in 19.1 overs with 9 wickets to spare.

Brief scores : South Africa women 142-7 (20) (Sune Luus 33, Nadine de Klerk 26; Anuja Patil 37/2, Poonam Yadav 2/18) lost to Indian women 144-1 (Mithali Raj 76*, Smriti Mandhana 57; Moseline Daniels 1/21) by nine wickets.

The Indian women's team won the toss and captain Harmanpreet Kaur elected to bowl first at the Buffalo Park stadium. The South African opening pair of Lizelle Lee and Dane van Niekerk was broken in the fourth over itself as Shikha Pandey managed to get Lee out for 15 as Jemimah Rodrigues took a decent catch. Van Niekerk was next to depart just two overs later for the same score as Kaur took a fine catch off a Pooja Vastrakar delivery in the sixth over.

Mignon du Prez was in at No. 4 and fired a quick 7-ball 11 after a mix up between her and partner Luus resulted in her being run-out in the seventh over. Marizanne Kapp was next to bat at No. 5 but she was sent back to the pavilion after she was caught off a Poonam Yadav delivery where she sent the ball straight to Shikha Pandey who took a fine catch. Sune Luus continued her fine form as she managed to hit 33 off 32 balls with a strike rate of 103.13 before being dismissed by Poonam Yadav in the fifteenth over.

Nadine de Kerk put up a fine performance down the order with a 28-ball 26, but Anja Patil managed to deliver for the Indian team once again when she got de Kerk caught in the seventeenth over. After her performance in the first match, the Indians bowled cautiously to Chloe Tryon, and managed to keep her quiet this time around although she managed to score 15 off 11 Krishnamurthy took a beautiful catch in the nineteenth over off an Anuja Patil delivery as the South Africans ended with 142 on the scoreboard for the loss of 7 wickets after 20 overs.

After comfortably chasing 165 in the first match of the series, the pressure was on the visitors to chase down a target of 143 over 20 overs. The opening pair of Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana stepped up to the occasion as they put up a brilliant partnership of 106 in 14 overs before Smriti Mandhana was dismissed at 57 by Daniels. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur stepped onto the pitch next to chase the next 35 odd runs. Raj played a man-of-the-match knock as she hit 76 off 61 balls and stayed not out as India chased the target of 145 in 19.1 overs with 9 wickets to spare.

With this win, the Indian women team go 2-0 up in the five-match series and will be expected to dominate in the rest of the T20I’s as well, with Raj, Kaur and Mandhana in fine form throughout the visitor's tour in South Africa.
