Virender Sehwag bats for MS Dhoni to take up No.4 role

Virender Sehwag believes that even though Virat Kohli wants MS Dhoni to play in the finishing role, the Indian skipper should give his predecessor an extended run at the No. 4 role. For the vacant role of the finisher, Sehwag suggested the names of Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, and Kedar Jadhav.
The No. 4 position has been a big problem for India for quite a while. With the top-order of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Kohli firing on all cylinders, the inadequacy of the middle order has not been exposed yet but some questions have now been raised. From Ajinkya Rahane to Manish Pandey and even Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya, all have had a stab at the coveted position but no one has been able to cement their spot. It has become such a topic of debate that Sunil Gavaskar went as far as to say that the skipper himself should drop down a place to cover all bases.Ā
Sehwag has now come up with another suggestion which actually solves multiple problems. With a lot of critics sharpening their knives to call time on MS Dhoniās career, Sehwag has suggested that he could be a viable option at the No.4 spot because it would afford him some time to get used to the conditions.Ā
āI believe, thereās still a scope of improvement in Indiaās middle-order batting line-up. MS Dhoni should pay up the order,ā Sehwag told India TV in an interview.Ā
However, while explaining why the move hasnāt been given too much thought in the past, Sehwag even went on to come up with names who could take over the role of the finisher in the side.
āI think, Kohli fears that if Dhoni comes at No 4 and loses his wicket early then there wonāt be anyone on the finishing spot. But Kohli should send him up the order and hand the finisherās role to Manish Pandey or Hardik Pandya or Kedar Jadhav,ā Sehwag explained.
