India’s early chance of sealing the three-match T20I series in the second game itself could take a serious hit as weather forecast expect thundershowers in the afternoon. The meteorological department has an 80% expectancy of thundershowers in the afternoon that might delay the start of the match.
Since Virat Kohli was able to shake off the losing mentality from his dressing room back in the third Test match, India’s only setback has come when a match was reduced due to prolonged rain. It happened in the fifth ODI in Johannesburg when South Africa’s target was reduced to 202 runs from 28 overs and India had eventually succumbed to a five-wicket loss.
Rain, that day, had also proved to be the kryptonite for Indian wrist spinners, which has been the only instance when the duo has failed. Hence, Kohli will be more than wary of nature’s interruption on Wednesday that is expected to delay the start of the game in the afternoon, which would make the toss and the team selection even more influential than India actually need.
SuperSport Park has been the kindest to the visitors so far in limited-overs, where they have won an 8-wicket win and a 9-wicket win the 2nd and 6th ODI. And although rain is expected in the morning, it should remain just cloudy as the day progress.
