To ensure every member of the support staff and even those who worked with the squad in the past would get an equal cash incentive, Rahul Dravid has taken a pay cut from the U-19 WC prize money. According to a revised list of cash awards, every member of the coaching staff will receive Rs 25 lakh.

When the Indian cricket team won the Under-19 World Cup for a record fourth time, it became a hagiography to promote a social narrative. At the same time, the BCCI announced a Rs 50 lakh prize money for him and Rs 20 lakh and 30 lakh each for other support staffs and players respectively. However, Dravid was not happy with this disparity in the allocation of prize money and requested that all support staff members be rewarded evenly.

Now, after Dravid discussed the same with BCCI CEO Rahul Johri, a revised list of cash awards has been announced and every member of the coaching staff, including Dravid, will receive Rs 25 lakh each. The BCCI has also added the members of the support staff, who were part of the team’s almost year-long preparation leading up to the World Cup, to the list of beneficiaries. And thanks to that decision, the family of former team trainer Rajesh Savant, who died last year, would receive the victory incentive.

“From the time the award was announced, Dravid wasn’t happy with him getting much more than others. He informed the Board that he felt that every member had played an equal role in the team winning the World Cup. It surprised many in the BCCI that he was ready to take a cut in his own earning,” an unnamed Board official told Indian Express.

While bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach Abhay Sharma, physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar, trainer Anand Date, masseur Mangesh Gaikwad, and video analyst Devraj Raut were supposed to be the beneficiaries for the prize, the five additions to the list are WV Raman, who was the coach when the under-19 team toured England, logistics managers Manuj Sharma, and Sumeet Malahapurkar, trainer Amogh Pandit, and the late trainer Rajesh Savant.
