Wriddhiman Saha will have to abstain from playing cricket for at least two months due to his shoulder injury. It is still being determined whether his shoulder injury will need a surgery and Saha has been strictly advised not to participate in active cricket till it is safe to do so.

Wriddhiman Saha had recovered from the thumb injury and it was his shoulder injury which was preventing him to play freely, something which Indian selectors and BCCI had not revealed previously. His injury has put a doubt on his participation in the upcoming England series and even the tour of Australia later on in the year. It had been a disappointing year for him as he sustained a hamstring injury in Cape Town while playing against South Africa in the first Test of the year.

“Saha suffered an injury to his right thumb while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the VIVO IPL Qualifier 2 against Kolkata Knight Riders on 25th May, 2018 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. He was under observation by the medical staff of the BCCI and the management has decided to give him adequate rest before the start of the England Test series. Saha's recovery period is expected to be around five to six weeks,” said BCCI in a press release in June.

BCCI has not been totally upfront regarding the proper communication of his injuries. Initially, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) had maintained to BCCI that Saha's rehabilitation process would take five to six weeks. However, currently, the rehabilitation may need five to six months. BCCI had even held back the information that Saha's shoulder injury was actually the cause of him not playing actively.

“Saha's recovery from a fractured right thumb hasn't been satisfactory. He hasn't responded well enough to the rehab at the National Cricket Academy, in Bangalore. At this moment, therefore, Saha is uncertain for all five Tests, not just the first three," chief selector MSK Prasad said to The Telegraph.
