Sachin Tendulkar has given his best wishes to his son Arjun Tendulkar after the latter was picked in the India U-19 team for the Sri Lanka tour. The cricket legend has also added that it is a very crucial juncture in Arjun’s cricket career and he should use this for bigger and grander things ahead.

Arjun has been selected in the Indian Under-19 squad for the two four-day matches in Sri Lanka to be held next month. The left-arm seamer was a part of the Mumbai Under-19 squad last year in the Cooch Behar Trophy, where he managed to secure 19 wickets. A lanky left-arm quick, who gets the ball to swing late, Arjun is also a lower-middle-order batsman and can contribute heavily with the bat. While his selection became a hot news yesterday on various social media, everyone was expecting his illustrious father to break silence and today, Tendulkar came out to state that it would be a crucial milestone in Arjun’s cricket career while wishing him luck for the Lankan tour.

"We are happy on Arjun being selected in India U-19 team. It is an important milestone in his cricketing life. Anjali (Tendulkar) and I will always support Arjun in his choices and pray for his success," Tendulkar was quoted as saying by TOI.

In September 2017, Arjun was picked in the Mumbai one-day side for the JY Lele invitational tournament in Baroda and his impressive performances made it possible for him to be a part in in the Mumbai Under-19 set-up for the BCCI tournaments. Arjun didn’t disappoint there either as he picked up 19 wickets in five matches, including two five-wicket hauls, for Mumbai Under-19 in the 2017-18 Cooch Behar Trophy and was at the 43rd position on the list of highest wicket-takers last season.

On the other hand, Himachal Pradesh's Ayush Jamwal, who managed to secure 50 wickets, couldn’t find a place in the team. On being enquired about the same, a senior BCCI official told TOI, "There is a clear direction from BCCI and coach Rahul Dravid that those who will surpass 19 by this year should not be selected even if they have performed. Let them play Ranji Trophy according to Rahul. So a lot of boys ahead of Arjun are disqualified.”

"If you look at the List, Arjun is the only genuine quick bowler who has more than 15 wickets. Most of the bowlers above him are spinners with only Ajay Dev Goud (33 wickets) being a genuine all-rounder. He is a slow medium bowler while Arjun is a quick bowler."
