Clearly, Kohli is the best in the world right now, says veteran Graeme Pollock

Graeme Pollock has called Indian skipper Virat Kohli as the best in the world at the moment and was quite happy presenting the ICC Test Championship mace to Kohli. Pollock also congratulated the Indian team’s dominance in South Africa as the visitors beat the hosts in the ODI and T20I format.

The rise of self-made Indian hero Virat Kohli has been something straight out of a fairytale, from leading the U-19 India team to the World Cup to actually going on to be a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup winning team in 2011, it’s been one hell of a ride. Kohli recently led India to a historic ODI series win in the Rainbow nation as the visitors ran riot to secure a 5-1 series win.

Graeme Pollock, widely regarded as South Africa’s greatest cricketer, recently met Kohli at Cape Town where he had a small chat with him and former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar as well. Pollock presented the ICC Test Championship mace to Kohli and now, in a chart with mid-day, he stated that the Indian skipper was truly a class apart.

"He is a wonderful guy and cricket sure needs people like him to be admired and respected. Kohli has done a tremendous job for India and his focus is simply outstanding. I just love the way he bats. Clearly, he's the best player in the world and I was very glad to handover the mace to a tremendous player," Pollock told mid-day in an interview yesterday.

Pollock went on to congratulate the young Indian team who put up an impressive display in the African continent as they bounced back from the initial 2-1 Test series defeat to go on to win the ODI series and T20I series by a margin of 5-1 and 2-1 respectively.

"It was wonderful to watch India and the way they won in the Johannesburg Test and the limited-overs series in South Africa. They dominated SA and deserve their success." Pollock said.
