D’Arcy Short, who will be representing Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming IPL, feels that everyone wants to have an IPL contract and compete with the best players around the world. He also said that he is looking forward to sharing the dressing room with the likes of Smith, Rahane, Butler and Stokes.

D’Arcy Short has had a wonderful few months. First, his exploits with the bat for the Hobart Hurricanes became one of the talking points of the Big Bash where he scored 572 runs in 11 innings at a strike-rate of 148.57. His consistent run helped him earn his spot in the Australian T20 squad and he performed well in his debut series as well. He scored 196 runs in 5 innings in the T20 tri-series which involved England and New Zealand apart from Australia. His exploits in the Big Bash helped him get an IPL contract and Rajasthan Royals went after the left-handed opener and bought him for 4 crores.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, D’Arcy Short stated that the IPL is the most popular T20 league and players have benefitted a lot after playing in it and hence he was excited.

“No one can take away the fact that IPL is the most popular T20 league in the world and players have benefitted a lot after playing in it. Everyone wants to have an IPL contract and rub shoulders with the best. I too wanted to be part of it and I am excited to go out there and give my best to my team,” D’Arcy Short was quoted by Hindustan Times.

The left-hander, who made his international debut in February this year, said that he was engaged with cricket commitments and hence could not follow the auction. However, he is delighted to be a part of the IPL and he also asked his Australian teammate Marcus Stoinis about how the conditions in India are.

“I was tied up with cricket commitments and was not keeping a tab on the auction. But when I got to know that two-three IPL franchises were bidding for me during the auction which RR eventually won, I got an incredible feeling. I can’t wait to step into the ground. I had a long discussion with Marcus Stoinis about Indian conditions and how things generally work in IPL,” Short revealed.

Short also spoke highly of Steve Smith and Shane Warne who will be an integral part of the Rajasthan Royals dressing room. He also said that he was looking forward to playing alongside the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes.

“It would be superb to have Steve as captain of the team. He is world-class cricketer and a brilliant captain. He has played a lot of cricket till date and gathered loads of experience. I won’t shy away from asking him anything. As far as Shane Warne is concerned, he is an intelligent customer. He is a legend and his presence in the dressing room can do wonders. IPL would give a new curve to me. I am also excited to play alongside Ajinkya Rahane, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes,” the 27-year old opener stated.

“After my last BBL stint, I was given a T20 call-up. I was over the moon. The taste of international cricket is what every cricketer desires. Playing for your country in all formats, especially Tests, gives you the ultimate satisfaction. I need to use all the chances I get from now on and leave an impression. Doing well in IPL can certainly give a push to my career. I have learnt a lot from my mentor Justin Langer and would keep discussing with him what all I need to do,” The 5-T20I old Australian said.
