Shikhar Dhawan has claimed that his performance in the South Africa tour helped him earn the A+ contract from the Indian cricket board. The Indian opener also talked about the upcoming England tour, stating that Team India has the capability of winning the series if they start preparing early.

Although Shikhar Dhawan couldn't do much in the only Test that he played in the South Africa tour, he more than compensated for it in the limited-overs series, where he struck two half-centuries and one century to help India win the ODI series 5-1. His performances were crucial in India winning the Nidahas Trophy too, which took place in Sri Lanka last week. And the left-handed opener has now stated that it was his brilliant display in South Africa that has helped him earn an A+ contract from the board.

"I was failing badly in overseas conditions, so to perform well (in ODIs and T20) gave me confidence. The performance in South Africa helped me win an A+ contract. I am very happy about that. It was a dream come true to perform like that in South Africa. I want to keep scoring runs consistently," said Dhawan as quoted by PTI.

While South Africa was not an easy assignment for the team, they will now face a tougher challenge when they tour England in July for a full-fledged tour. But, Dhawan believes that if they can get enough practice opportunities in the English conditions ahead of the tour, there is no doubt that India would do well in the five-match Test series.

"England is going to be a very difficult series but we will have to play on those sort of pitches from early on and see how it goes there. If we have the right preparation and are able to give our best shot, there is no reason why we can't win Test series in England," Dhawan added.

The Delhi opener is currently readying himself for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, where he will again feature for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Dhawan was a part of the title-winning squad, where he saw numerous good opening partnership with Australia's David Warner, and was obviously excited to start the campiagn next month again.

"IPL is going to be exciting. It's a fresh season and we have so many new faces and the team looks good. Hopefully, I will be fresh and fit to perform," he said.

"IPL is a platform for players to get noticed and may be, make it to the Indian team but the focus should be on performance rather than thinking about India selection."
