The South Africa and Australia series has seen pretty much every form of controversy in the first three Tests itself. However, Saturday witnessed the only form no cricket fan would ever want to see, as Cameron Bancroft was caught on camera attempting to shine the ball with a seemingly sharp object.

The third Test match between the big daddies of cricket started on a bitter note after Kagiso Rabada successfully appealed to get his suspension overturned by ICC. After the first Two Tests gave both the sides enough instances to have the final laugh, the series now stands at 1-1 with the outcome very much in the balance.

The competition has become more bitter with Australian players giving the home crowd every reason to feel that way. And that hatred was clearly reflected in the David Warner dismissal on Friday, when a Proteas fan was caught on camera sledging and provoking the opener as he was returning to the pavilion after being dismissed by Rabada.

The unhealthy atmosphere must have got better of the true sportsman in the players because Australia opener Cameron Bancroft was caught on camera after the 43rd over, hiding in his pocket what seemed like a sharp object, which is suspected to be used to shine the ball and roughen a side.

When the on-field officials were discussing among each other, the camera got Bancroft taking something out of his side pockets and hiding it inside his trousers. The umpires had a chat with Bancroft and skipper Steven Smith who showed just the harmless handkerchief in their pockets. However, the camera also saw South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis spotting it in Bancroft’s hands and gesturing it to his teammates in the dressing room.
