Virat Kohli has stated that the reason why the match turned out to be a one-sided affair was as his team’s performance was a clinical one in all departments. India won the final game of the five-match ODI series against the visiting Windies by nine wickets with an incredible 35.1 overs to spare.

In a completely one-sided contest, India won the fifth and the final game of the ODI series against Windies thereby taking the series 3-1. The final ODI finished within four hours as India chased down a small target of 104 runs within 15 overs. Skipper Virat Kohli seemed very happy with his team’s performance and also credited his bowling unit for such emphatic victory.

“Turned out to be that way. Because of our clinical performance, we were able to finish the game in a few hours. Credit to the bowling unit, pitching it in the right areas,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation when asked about the easy victory.

Earlier in the match, the West Indies skipper Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat first which proved to be a horrible decision as the team could put up a paltry score of 104 runs. Virat Kohli too seemed happy with the toss and hinted that it was ultimately a good toss to lose as he wanted to bowl anyway.

“Wanted to bowl first anyway. Blessing in disguise. Still had to execute our plans. Last both games have been clinical, very professional with ball and bat. Change-room atmosphere is very important, and when you play like that, the energy is always good. Everyone wants to be part of it,” the Indian skipper added.

Steering the discussions towards the upcoming Cricket World Cup preparations, Virat Kohli stated that two remaining aspects of the team seem to be solved as both Ambati Rayudu at number four and Khaleel Ahmed as the third seamer have performed pretty well in the series. Ambati Rayudu had scored a century in the previous ODI and Khaleel Ahmed bagged a total of five wickets in the last two matches of the series.

“Two areas I can think of (World Cup plans): third seamer - Khaleel has been outstanding. Rayudu has also taken responsibility at No.4. God forbid anything happens to Bhuvi or Bumrah, good to have Khaleel who can come in and take wickets. Those two areas we're looking at. And those two have been addressed."

Kohli had a wonderful series against the Windies scoring three back to back centuries which led to him bagging the man of the series award.

“To contribute as a captain is an added bonus. Won't happen every time. Awards are by-products of what you do on the field,” he said.
