CoA requests SC to go public with names of nine IPL cricketers in 2013 corruption case

BCCI have asked the CoA to intervene in order to get the Supreme Court to reveal the names of the nine cricketers were named as suspected match and spot-fixers submitted by the Justice Mudgal Committee. Raj Kundra, N Srinivasan, Gurunath Meiyappan and Sundar Raman were named in the case earlier.

In the wake of the whole controversy surrounding the 2013 Indian Premier League match fixing scandal, an independent committee led by Justice Mudgal was formed to investigate the allegations and punish those deemed guilty of spreading corruption in the tournament. After a thorough investigation and cross-questioning of witnesses and informants, The Justice Mudgal committee named 13 people in the envelope submitted to the Supreme Court in 2014, of which only four names were revealed - Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra, Chennai Super Kings team principal Gurunath Meiyappan, former BCCI president N Srinivasan and IPL COO Sundar Raman. 

While Kundra and Meiyappan were handed life bans by the BCCI, Srinivasan and Raman were found to be innocent and were given clean chits, as per the report. However, in a report published by The Indian Express, the BCCI along with CoA has asked the Supreme Court to reveal the names of all nine Indian cricketers who were included as suspected match and spot-fixers in the sealed envelope submitted by the Justice Mudgal Committee back in 2014.

The reason behind CoA’s insistence is that the revelation of names to the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit for investigation will send a strong message and serve as a reminder to other players to not follow suit.
