In the absence of better athletes like Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, India had to largely bank on safer hands to stop runs in the T20I series against Windies. However, Shikhar Dhawan exhibited that India’s safe hands are much better than most of the fielders around world cricket.

Windies got a wishful start to their innings as they found themselves in a comfortable position after whacking Washington Sundar and Khaleel Ahmed all over the ground in the early overs. Given the natural power-hitters that the Caribbean have always produced, this was like a taste of blood and they didn’t look to stop almost reaching 40 in the first five overs itself.

Rohit Sharma decided to introduce Krunal Pandya in the sixth over to reduce the leaking runs but the finger spinner wasn’t spared either as he was sent for a maximum in on the second ball of his over by Shai Hope, who was looking the more dangerous of the two openers. He needed to be checked and it was on the next ball that the fielders finally stepped up when another of Hope’s attempt off a flatter delivery down the leg-side saw the ball traveling towards the deep-midwicket boundary.

It was destined for the second consecutive six but Dhawan, who was standing at the ropes, leaped in the air and seeing that he was agonizingly close to the boundary cushion, decided to flick the ball behind after taking the catch. One had to tremendously accurate with a brilliant presence of mind to prevent the runs. And guess what? He ended up saving five runs for the side.
