Currently undergoing rehabilitation, Hardik Pandya reckons he should be at peak fitness in time for the ODI series against Australia which is scheduled to start on January 12. Pandya had suffered a back injury during India’s Asia Cup campaign which forced him to withdraw from the tournament.

Explosive Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, has carved a name for himself in global cricket on the back of his on and off-field antics in the past couple of years. While his changing hair-dos and wack dressing attires continue to grab headlines, there’s no denying that the youngster from Baroda can perform on the pitch as well. Ever since making his debut for India in 2016 against Australia, Pandya has gone on to cement his spot in the Indian team as Virat Kohli’s first-choice for the all-rounder position in the matchday squad.

However, an excessive workload seemed to have taken a toll on the youngster as he was stretchered off the pitch in the match against Pakistan during India’s Asia Cup campaign a few months ago. Post-match scans revealed that the 25-year old had suffered a lower-back injury and would face some time on the sidelines as a result.

But the flamboyant cricketer recently revealed in an interview with Cricbuzz, that he has set himself a target of returning to the national setup before the ODI series against Australia which is scheduled to start on January 12.

"I'm trying hard to be fit for the ODI series against Australia to start in January 2019. To get back to full fitness, I'm going through rigorous bowling sessions in Mumbai. I have just started bowling after 60 days. Once I bowl a few overs in the ODIs, I think I should be on the right track," said Hardik.

The Mumbai Indians player also backed India to emerge victorious over the course of the series and wished the lads good luck for the challenge that lay ahead.

"We are a formidable side and we should give a good fight to Australia who I believe are very strong in their own backyard. I am hoping for an exciting series,'' he said.

While Hardik has been sidelined with injury, elder brother Krunal Pandya, has made his mark with the national team and was also included in the T20I squad for the first match against Australia. Hardik added that he was extremely proud to see his brother represent the national team in his absence.
