Cricket Australia have roped in Kevin Roberts as their next Chief Executive to replace the outgoing James Sutherland, who resigned earlier in June this year. The 46-year-old has participated in 23 first-class matches and 18 domestic one-dayers for New South Wales during his playing days.

One of the many repercussions of the whole ‘Sandpapergate’ saga was the resignation of the then Chief Executive of Cricket Australia - James Sutherland. Sutherland handed in his resignation in the wake of the ball-tampering incident in South Africa in June this year.

And after a long search to find a successor for the outgoing Sutherland, Cricket Australia have appointed Kevin Roberts as their next Chief Executive Officer. Roberts, a former first-class cricketer, had been promoted to the newly devised role of Chief Operating Officer earlier this year. He was also CA's lead negotiator during the pay dispute in 2017 involving the players and the board.

"It is a great privilege and responsibility to lead and serve the cricket community as CEO of Cricket Australia. I thank the Board for this opportunity and look forward to commencing in the role. One of the many things I love about cricket as our national sport is its ability to bring people together and inspire us, regardless of our age, gender or cultural background," Roberts said post his appointment.

Roberts was part of 23 first-class matches and 18 domestic one-dayers for New South Wales cricket team in his playing days. Post his retirement from the sport, Roberts became the CEO of 2XU, an Australian-based multinational sports apparel company before he was appointed as Adidas' managing director in Australia after which he was appointed their Global Senior Vice President. The former cricketer then joined the CA board in 2012 and in 2015, assumed an executive role with responsibilities for strategy, people & culture, technology, female engagement, and member services, apart from the One Team transformation program.

"It's also true that the game and Cricket Australia have faced some difficult times recently, but we will bounce back, just as our organisation has overcome challenges on and off the field many times in its proud history," Roberts further added. "Under my leadership, we will be deeply committed to providing the best experiences of cricket to everyone who watches the game or plays the game, and we will work closely with our broadcasters and commercial partners to deliver on that commitment," Roberts added.
