The International Cricket Council has stated that the allegations of corruption against Sri Lanka Cricket are being probed into by appropriate authority. Performance-wise too the Sri Lankan cricket is having one of the worst phases, as recently they were knocked out of the Asia Cup by Afghanistan.

Every team in International Cricket goes through a phase of transformation, even theĀ Sri Lankan Cricket team was expected to go through one after the retirement of the stalwarts like Muttiah Muralitharan, Mahela Jayawardene,Ā and Kumar Sangakkara. But for the Sri Lankans, the transformation has been dragging along and the team is yet to find its feet. Now, a corruption allegation issue has cropped up which is not going to help them either.

As the investigations are still ongoing, the ICC anti-corruption unit general manager Alex Marshall said to AP, ā€œso it would not be appropriate to comment further. But I can confirm that we have, at their request, provided a detailed briefing to the Sri Lankan president, prime minister and sports ministerā€.

The English Cricket Team are scheduled to play against Sri Lanka in a five-match ODI series followed by a lone T20 game and then finally a two-match Test series. The series is planned to start on 10th October at the P Sara Oval in Colombo.

ā€œIā€™d like to make it clear that these investigations have been underway for a considerable time and do not relate to the series about to start in Sri Lanka. However, I will take the opportunity to brief both the teams over the coming days to ensure they remain alert to the risks from would be corruptorsā€ Marshall said to AP.
