India vs England | We made a good comeback, says Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja, who made his comeback to the Indian Test team in the fifth Test at the Oval, has revealed that the bowlers did well to restrict England in the second session to 198/7. England have already won the series before the Oval Test but India will hope to end the tour on a good note.
Even though the Indian team admitted defeat in the five-match Test series against England, they were determined to end the UK tour on a positive note as they headed into the final Test match at the Oval yesterday. Some impressive bowling displays from Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and the returning Ravindra Jadeja ensured that the visitors restricted the English batsmen to a total of 198/7 at the end of Day 1.
Jadeja, who ended the day with figures of 2/57, spoke about the Virat Kohli-led team India’s performance in the fifth Test in a post-match press conference. He explained that the bowling department put in a good performance and recovered well in the second session of the day.
"I think it is very difficult that you are not getting any help from the wicket and you are not able to execute your plans accordingly. So I was thinking that Shami, Ishant and Bumrah were all bowling well from the other end and beating the batsman consistently and were bowling in good areas.
"So, I was also thinking that I shouldn’t give them any boundary because if the pressure is released then it becomes easy for the batsman. And as I said we made a good comeback, Yes in the second session we didn’t get any wicket, but we didn’t give away runs. So, as a bowling department we did a good job," said Jadeja.
With Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid still at the crease, the Indian bowlers will look to get rid of the tailenders as quickly as possible to give the Virat Kohli & Co. enough time to put up a good total on the scoreboard.
