Glenn McGrath backed James Anderson to cross the 600-wicket milestone in the future after the former surpassed the Australian as the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket amongst fast bowlers. McGrath believes Anderson still has more to offer and the next target for him will be Anil Kumbleā€™s record.

Swing maestro and widely regarded as one of the most graceful and successful cricketers of all time, Aussie Glenn McGrath, has certainly had a well-distinguished career. With 563 wickets in Test cricket, McGrath was the leading wicket-taker amongst fast bowlers until Englandā€™s James Anderson surpassed him as he claimed his 564th wicket in the form of Indiaā€™s Mohammed Shami.

Anderson became the fourth-highest wicket taker, behind theĀ spin trio of Sri Lankaā€™s Muttiah Muralitharan, Australiaā€™s Shane Warne,Ā and Indiaā€™s Anil Kumble as he overtook Glenn McGrath on the list. And the Australian believed that thereā€™s still more to come from the 36-year old fast bowler in the coming years.

ā€œJust to see Jimmy now, he looks fit and keen and running around, it depends on what he wants to do. He has gone past me and I think the next bar is 600 Test wickets. If he can get to 600 Test wickets, thatā€™s an incredible effort, and if he is still got that drive, that passion to get yourself up, to put the hard work in off the field to carry you through on the fieldā€¦ if he has still got that desire, then he can play as long as he wants,ā€ McGrath told ā€˜BBCā€™.

McGrath, who represented Australia in 124 Tests, coincidentally bagged Anderson as his last Test wicket back in the Ashes series in 2007. Aged 36, Anderson is at the twilight of his career but McGrath is confident that the Englishman still has more to offer and revealed his next target will definitely be Kumbleā€™s record.

ā€œI think heā€™s still got aĀ little bit left in the tank yet. Iā€™d like to see Jimmy go and get 600 and then whether he wants to try and knock off one of these dodgy spinners that are still at the top of the tree. I think Kumble is about 619. Thatā€™s within range,ā€ the former Australian fast bowler added.
