Following his resignation from the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association's (DDCA) cricket committee, Virender Sehwag has revealed that he did that keeping in mind the body's interest. Along with two other members, the former cricketer had advised retaining Manoj Prabhakar as Delhi's bowling coach.

Akash Chopra and Rahul Sanghvi were the two other Committee member who had favored retaining Manoj Prabhakar as the bowling coach of Delhi. However, DDCA had not given any positive confirmation in the whole matter. Now, it has been speculated that it could well have influenced Sehwag’s resignation.

“However, looking at the best interest of Delhi Cricket, we would like to inform you that all three of us would not be able to continue with the assignment of Cricket Committee of DDCA any further due to our busy schedule in day to day life," Sehwag told PTI.

“We had come together and given time and effort with the idea of contributing and helping in the improvement of Delhi cricket within the framework of our role as a cricket committee," he said.

The DDCA sources, however, have confirmed that the body had to appoint a new panel, as they have been directed by the Supreme Court to submit a new constitution in the next two days. Furthermore, Gautam Gambhir has objected to the appointment of Prabhakar as the bowling coach, due to his name being involved in the match-fixing scandal, back in 2000.

“Gautam has always followed this principle that he doesn't want anyone remotely involved in malpractice like match-fixing to be a part of Delhi dressing room," a DDCA official, who didn't want to be named told PTI.

“After the new constitution is adopted, Sehwag would have been hit by Conflict of Interest clause as he is an expert in the DDCA president's channel. Similarly, Sanghvi is associated with Mumbai Indians. So, they knew they had to go," the official said.

The official also gave his opinion on the matter, when Gambhir didn't raise his voice as Delhi won the Ranji Trophy in 2007-08, under Prabhakar's bowling guidance. Prabhakar was the bowling coach for Delhi last year as well.

“In both cases there was nobody who would have listened to Gambhir. If you look at 2016 season, Ajay Jadeja was appointed coach and as a captain he had to put his foot down. No alleged match-fixer in the dressing room of which he is a part," he said.
