Vijay Hazare Trophy Round up | Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer score tons as Mumbai registers victory

Tons by Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer in the Round 3 Elite group A match at the Vijay Hazare trophy helped Mumbai build a good score of 362 and register a win against Karnataka. SZ Mulani picked up four crucial wickets to restrict Karnataka to a score of just 274 within 45 overs.

Mumbai, Goa and Punjab played against Karnataka, Railways and Vidarbha respectively, to mark the  Round Three matches of group A of Elite level. Similarly, teams from group B included, Delhi, that played against Hyderabad, Kerala against Odisha and Chattisgarh against UP. Haryana played Assam, Tripura played against Jammu and Kashmir whereas Tamilnadu took services from group C. The plate group matches played today were Arunachal Pradesh vs Sikkim, Nagaland vs Meghalaya and Puducherry vs Uttarakhand. 

The newly built team of Puducherry gave a tough challenge to Uttarakhand as Abhishek Nayar scored 94 runs and tried to keep the game alive for his new team. However, Uttarakhand had already raised a total of 291 runs which proved to be high enough for the Puducherry batsmen. 

Meghalaya also stood strong as opener R R Biswa and Yogesh Nagar hit 71 and 58 respectively to hold the game in their favour. However, Pawan KB of Nagaland scored a brilliant knock of 113 runs and Sedezhalie scored 50 runs to end Meghalaya's campaign. 

Openers Samarth Seth and Doria of Arunachal Pradesh thrashed Sikkim's bowling attack and amassed 89 and 122 runs respectively. Sikkim openers too tried hard to stand strong and chase the total of 306 runs but fell short by just 50 runs in the end and lost the game.

Similarly, Tamilnadu openers put up a good show and they scored 315 runs that became difficult for Services to chase down as they managed to score just 232 runs.

Tripura's bowling attack pierced through Jammu and Kashmir's batting line-up and restricted them to a very low total of just 79 runs which they chased with absolute ease. 

The game between Haryana and Assam was a similar show as Haryana's bowling let the Assamese batsmen to only raise a total of 81 runs and hence reducing the pressure off their batsmen and hence winning the match. 

Uttar Pradesh put up a score of 250 runs against Chhattisgarh which didn't seem to look like a difficult one for them to chase down. 

Akshay Chandran of Kerala took four wickets and destroyed Odisha's middle-order and restrict them to a low total of 117 runs. Even though Kerala lost early wickets, Sanju Samson and Sachin Baby managed well to register the victory. 

Delhi won the game against Hyderabad by VJD method after Hyderabad batsmen managed to score a decent total of 205 runs in 47.4 overs whereas Gautam Gambhir's 41 and Nitish Rana's 91 helped Delhi score 178 just in 31 overs. Rain interrupted the game but Delhi were declared winners by the VJD method as their run rate was higher. 

Punjab managed to raise a good total of 278 runs after Yuvraj Singh's 41 and Gurkeerat Mann's 85. Vidarbha's batsmen failed to keep up with the bowling conditions and hence lost the match. 

Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer played to the best of their abilities and scored 60, 148 and 110 runs respectively to raise a mammoth score for Mumbai. Karnataka batsmen fell under pressure and showcased a relatively poor performance to succumb under the conditions put up by Mumbai pacers. Mumbai won the match by 88 runs. 

Goa played exceptionally well to score 317 runs making it difficult for the Railways. However, Mrunal Devdhar(68) and Amit Paunikar (84) tried their best to chase but other batsmen failed to stand and support their team. Goa won the game by 42 runs.
