VIDEO | Lack of “Dhoni Review System” ends MS Dhoni's stay despite ball missing the stumps by a mile

MS Dhoni is often referred to as the ‘DRS’ king after he developed a knack for getting a breakthrough from time to time, but what happens when you know you’re right, but don’t have any reviews left? Ask Dhoni. The skipper had to walk back to the pavilion because KL Rahul wasted the review earlier.

MS Dhoni became the first Indian to captain the national team in 200 ODIs as he took charge of today’s game against Afghanistan. The Indian management opted to rest the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar since they already secured a spot in the final. Deepak Chahar made his ODI debut as KL Rahul, Khaleel Ahmed, and Manish Pandey returned to the matchday squad.

Dhoni was lively in the first innings as he was involved in a few incidents on the field and also produced a stunning stumping to dismiss Hashmatullah Shahidi. However, he had to depart early in the second innings as he was unjustly given out by the on-field umpire off a Javed Ahmadi delivery.

Ahmadi’s delivery pitched just outside off and turned in from a length. Dhoni closed the face of the bat early to work it away into the on-side but was struck on the pad in the process. The ball looked to be going down leg-side, but the umpire had already made up his mind. India had already used up their review when KL Rahul asked for it earlier, so they were not able to do so now. Dhoni, who looked dejected, had to depart in stunned silence as he made his way back to the pavilion.
