Manu Sawhney assumes charge as ICC chief executive officer with 'immediate effect'
Manu Sawhney has assumed the formal charge of ICC as the chief executive officer with ‘immediate effect’ almost three months before he was scheduled to take over the post. Sawhney revealed he could not wait to start the new job as he pointed out some key areas he will be focusing on in the future.
Manu Sawhney, the former CEO of Singapore Sports Hub and the former Managing Director of ESPN Star Sports, was scheduled to join the ICC in February before formally taking charge as CEO from David Richardson in July later this year. However, ICC recently revealed that Sawhney will take over from Richardson with ‘immediate effect’ to allow the latter to solely concentrate on the Cricket World Cup operations.
At the start of 2019, ICC Board approved Sawhney's appointment as the next ICC CEO to replace the outgoing Richardson whose seven-year tenure will come to an end with the World Cup. In a media release, the ICC said Sawhney was already working along with Richardson for the past six weeks ‘to ensure a smooth transition for the organization’.

Technology, engagement, women's cricket and driving greater value are key focus areas for us as we consider how we can innovate to transform the sport's long-term future and create a vibrant and sustainable sport globally," Sawhney told ESPNCricinfo.
