Western Australia pacer Matt Kelly has joined the Kolkata Knight Riders’ squad and was seen during the optional practice session at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Tuesday. The 24-year-old seamer has joined the Knight Riders as a replacement for injured South African speedster Anrich Nortje.

Young and promising pacer of the Western Australia cricket team Matt Kelly is the newest recruit for KKR. After Nortje was ruled out of the 12th edition of the IPL, KKR have roped in Kelly who, according to a TOI report, was seen batting and bowling in the nets under the watchful eyes of bowling coach Carl Crowe and coach Jacques Kallis at the Eden Gardens last evening. Kelly represents Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League and has played 12 matches in the shortest format of the game.

He has played 16 first-class and just five List A games so far in his short domestic career for Western Australia with 54 and nine wickets respectively in the two formats. In T20s, he has a total of 19 wickets to his name with a decent economy rate of 7.43 per over.

The Kolkata-based franchise are on a three-game losing streak and have got a much-needed break to regroup themselves ahead of their next game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 19 at home.
