IPL 2019 | Umesh Yadav is short on confidence after not being named in World Cup squad, says Ashish Nehra
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s bowling coach Ashish Nehra has stated that Umesh Yadav is lacking confidence after missing out in the 15-man Indian World Cup squad. Yadav last played an One Day International (ODI) for India against the Windies in October 2018 and has been on the sidelines since then.
Ashish Nehra has stated that Umesh Yadav’s confidence as a bowler has taken a severe beating after missing out from the upcoming Indian World Cup squad. Yadav has been in ordinary form in the ongoing season of the IPL and hardly did anything substantial. The Vidarbha pacer has conceded almost 10 runs per over in last few games and his lack of form has hampered RCB’s run as he is one of their vital cogs in the bowling department. RCB lost their previous encounter to Delhi Capitals and virtually ended their hopes of making it to the playoffs. Â
“Umesh is short on confidence especially because of the way he has performed in the last 4-5 months. He hasn’t been playing for India. He is not a part of the World Cup and it’s not easy for any cricketer to take that. He is not even in the standby,” Nehra said.
“That definitely must be playing on his mind. He is someone who has always been good. He has plenty of skill and talent. He bowls really well with the new ball, last year that was the mantra of his success. He should look to make a comeback in the Indian team and he knows what he has to do for that.”
Yadav was the most successful Indian bowler in the 2015 World Cup for India, but his lack of form in the recent times didn’t let him secure a spot in the Indian attack. To add to his woes, he has even failed to make it to the standbys for the prestigious tournament.Â
"I don’t think it was a 188-run wicket. I feel we could have bowled much better. Compared to Bombay, Bengaluru it was an easier wicket to bowl on. Bowlers missed the trick especially the way Navdeep Saini and Umesh Yadav bowled the last over. 36 are too many runs. Anything more than 160 batting second on this wicket is tough.”
