Hendrik 'Rassie' van der Dussen has been rewarded with a CSA central contract after putting in some impressive performances with the Proteas team. The 30-year-old finished the ICC World Cup 2019 as the team's second-highest run-getter with 311 runs from six innings at an average of 62.20.

The South African cricket team thoroughly under-performed at the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2019 and came under some heavy criticism for their overall display throughout the tournament. However, one of the positive points that the Proteas could gather from the team's performance in England was the emergence of Hendrik 'Rassie' van der Dussen in the South African middle order.

The veteran batsman ended the quadrennial showpiece as the Proteas' second-highest run-getter as he amassed a total of 311 runs from six innings at an average of 62.20. As a result of his impressive outing with Faf du Plessis' side, Rassie was rewarded with a CSA central contract as announced earlier.

"Rassie's promotion is thoroughly justified on the back of a brilliant debut season at international level and has also served as an inspiration to all aspiring cricketers at the domestic level of what can be achieved by showing top-class form on a consistent basis," said CSA Chief Executive Thabang Moroe.

Van der Dussen, who has also been touted as a future South Africa ODI captain, takes up the contract that was left vacant following fast bowler Duanne Olivier's decision to move to England on a Kolpak deal.
