Chris Gayle has put an end to all the speculation surrounding his retirement by stating that until further notice, he will continue to remain active in ODI Cricket. Months ago, Gayle had announced that he would retire post the World Cup, but then made a U-turn by playing in the series against India.
In what comes as exciting news for cricket fans around the world, the "Universe Boss" Chris Gayle has kept the whole cricketing fraternity on its toes by hinting that he indeed could be seen in action in ODI Cricket once again in the near future. In what was his 301st ODI, the Jamaican scored a thunderous 41-ball 72 and walked off the field acknowledging the crowd and his fellow mates, which prompted everyone to interpret that it was his last ODI innings.
However, the 39-year-old has now stated that he has officially not retired from ODIs, and might carry on playing until further notice. In a video clip posted by Windies Cricket's official Twitter handle, the Jamaican, with a quirky smile on his face, was seen putting to bed any speculation of ODI retirement.Â
In a 10-second video posted by the Windies Twitter handle talking about his speculated retirement, Gayle says "I didn't announce any retirement," and when quizzed if that meant that he will continue playing, he replies "Yeah, until further notice," indicating that we might indeed get another chance to see the big man in ODI colors for the Windies.Â
In the 2nd ODI against India at Port of Spain, Gayle overtook Brian Lara to become the highest run-getter for the Windies in ODIs, going past the latter's number of 10,348.
