Just when you think you've seen everything, time and again, the game of cricket comes up with something ridiculously silly yet funny at the same time. In a hilarious incident, Trent Boult tried to walk away from the fielders after the ball got stuck in his helmet grill, leaving everyone in stitches.

From Virat Kohli teaching dance moves to Chris Gayle to David Warner playing along with the hostile English crowd, we've witnessed many a funny moment in the past month. However, Trent Boult and the Sri Lankan players might have already provided us with the funniest moment of the year, as they combined to provide a hilarious moment for the fans to remember.Ā

On the first ball of the 81st over with New Zealand batting on 239/8, left-armer Lasith Embuldeniya came in to bowl to Boult in hope of cleaning up the Kiwi innings as soon as possible. The New Zealander, who has never been short of some funky innovation with the bat, went for a pre-meditated paddle-sweep in hope of getting the ball fine of the wicketkeeper.Ā

However, he only succeeded in getting a top-edge, as a result of which the ball got stuck in his helmet grill. Sensing that the ball was still in play, the Lankan fielders - with a huge grin on their faces - tried approaching Boult to take the ball and claim a catch, but Boult, who knew what was going on, hilariously moved around the crease, trying to evade the fielders to avoid himself from getting out "caught".Ā

Eventually, the fielders ended up taking the ball out of Boult's helmet, but the ball had stayed in there long enough for it to be considered dead. Both teamsĀ saw the lighter side of the incident, and it ended in smiles and giggles as they went back to business to get on with the game. While these kind of incidents are few and far between, it is indeed heart-warming to see the cricketers see the lighter side and play the game in the right spirit.Ā
