Jason Holder, Shai Hope, and Andre Russell among top West Indies award winners
Jason Holder, the skipper of the Windies' Test and ODI sides, bagged the best Test player of the Year award and West Indies’ Player of the Year at the 7th CWI/WIPA Awards 2019. Meanwhile, Shai Hope and Andre Russell were named the ODI player and the Caribbean T20 Player of the year, respectively.
Jason Holder bagged multiple awards at the West Indies Cricket awards 2019, while Shai Hope, Keemo Paul, Oshane Thomas, and Andre Russell were named as the best in their respective department.
Under the leadership of Holder, West Indies drew a series against Sri Lanka 1-1 and later defeated Bangladesh in two-match Test series 2-0. During the period, the captain showed his all-rounder skills in both ODIs and T20Is.
Top-order batsman Shai Hope was the highest run-scorer in ODIs for West Indies in 2018 and hence has been named the West Indies’ ODI Player of the Year. Hope amassed 875 runs at 67.30 last year, that included three centuries and three half-centuries.
Keemo Paul, with 17 wickets and 124 runs in 13 matches, bagged the T20 Player of the Year award. Meanwhile, right-arm pacer Oshane Thomas was named the Emerging Player of the year and Rahkeem Cornwall, who will supposedly his Test debut against India this week, was adjudged West Indies championship Player of the Year. Power hitter and T20 star, Andre Russell bagged the Caribbean T20 player award.
Among other awards, all-rounder Deandra Dottin swept top three awards in Women's Cricket – West Indies women Player of the Year, West Indies Women’s ODI Player of the Year and the T20 Player of the Year.
