The Indian selection committee, led by MSK Prasad, will announce the squad for the upcoming home series against Australia later this week on Friday. The Indian cricket team will go up against Aaron Finch & Co. in the coming month over the course of two T20I’s and five ODI matches.

The BCCI selection committee will meet in Mumbai on Monday to put together the squad for the upcoming limited-overs series against Australia which will be played on home soil. The senior Indian cricket team are scheduled to play two T20Is and five ODIs against the Australians, which will be their last set of international games ahead of the 2019 World Cup in England. The only other tournament that Indian players will be involved in will be this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League.

The selection committee, headed by MSK Prasad, will opt to balance the workload on players who have been used in the last two away series wins against New Zealand and Australia since the start of 2019. They will give the senior guys ample rest before the upcoming World Cup and also offer some much needed rest to the hard-working bowling attack.

"Workload management of the senior players will definitely be the main area of discussion as we all know that the Indians have been on the road and the selectors and team management have made a conscious effort to ensure that the players get ample rest between games and series.

"Like you saw, regular skipper Virat Kohli was rested for the back end of the New Zealand series. You might see Rohit Sharma rested for some games here. But it is also important to note that the Indians would want to keep the foot on the pedal and ensure that they don't give the Australians any momentum going into the World Cup. A good series against India would mean a confidence booster for the team. So there has to be a balance, so that the composition of the team is not affected," a BCCI source told TOI recently.

While Delhi youngster, Rishabh Pant, is almost certain to get more game time, it will be interesting to see if someone like Ajinkya Rahane, Shubman Gill or even KL Rahul will get a chance in the coming home series. In the bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah could make a return to the Indian limited-overs team after he was rested for the New Zealand tour.

"We've been in touch with the BCCI and CoA in this regard. We have certain plans in place and we'll be looking to follow them. Usually, the two months of IPL are seen as relatively free months for me and I can just sit down and enjoy the cricket, watch out for new, young talent that keep emerging. But this IPL will be about monitoring the players, keeping the World Cup in mind," India coach Ravi Shastri had said in an earlier interview.
