Mohammed Kaif has heaped praise on MS Dhoni by stating that he is an invaluable member of the Indian limited-overs team and must definitely be included in the squad for the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup. Kaif was happy that Dhoni was able to perform at his usual best in the Australia series in January.

MS Dhoni’s spot in the limited-overs team has been a constant source of speculation amongst Indian fans and critics as well. However, the Indian wicket-keeper silenced most of his doubters after impressing in the away ODI series win against Aaron Finch & Co. in January. Scoring 193 runs across three matches, Dhoni was also adjudged as the Man of the series. Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif was all praise for his former teammate as he declared Dhoni to be an invaluable part of the current Indian team.

“Dhoni has been the key player in this side. He is not the captain, but Virat Kohli trusts Dhoni to help him with decisions in crucial situations. The team revolves around Dhoni, the young bowlers go to Dhoni. The captain, when he is in trouble, he goes to Dhoni,” said Kaif in a chat with Hindustan Times.

Kaif, who is well-remembered for his role in India’s historic NatWest series win against England back in 2002, added that he felt happy to see Dhoni get back to his usual best in the series against Australia.

“The current form of Dhoni has been brilliant - the way he played in Australia was great. With Kohli, Dhoni and other players in form, we have a great chance to win the World Cup,” Kaif added.

In addition to Dhoni, Kaif also spoke about current Indian captain, Virat Kohli, who has helped in changing the mindset of the Indian team over the last couple of years. The former Uttar Pradesh cricketer claimed that Virat has been an inspirational leader.

“Fantastic, I think he has been the leader India wanted, he has been inspiring the players in the squad and the aspiring cricketers. He has been outstanding since he started playing for India. That’s what India wants, someone (Kohli) who will win matches for India. He has backed his players and now for the World Cup, our side looks very strong,” he concluded.
