ECB chief executive Tom Harrison has proposed that The 100-ball format of the game will have key moments where players will experience playing under pressure. He has also added that given the schedule, the tournament will leave county cricketers with less time to prepare for the 50-over format.

After the T20 and 10-over format of the game, "The Hundred" will be a new format with 100 balls per innings. The ECB and the Hundred tournament organizers are working closely to make sure the inaugural edition shall be smooth and successful.

"I think players will want to play in The Hundred. We'll demonstrate an ambition behind this that is very pure and can enhance players' skills under pressure. Hundred-ball cricket will deliver more of those key moments when players have to deliver under serious pressure. We'll make it attractive to players to come and play," Harrison was quoted as saying by the ESPNCricinfo.

Despite players like Virat Kohli signing for Surrey, Cheteshwar Pujara for Yorkshire, and Ishant Sharma having played for Sussex, Harrison feels that Indian cricketers featuring in the Hundred will be a wider discussion and that it is too soon to give a word of commitment regarding the same.

"I can't commit to the involvement of India players. It's a political conversation as much as anything. It's a difficult conversation. It's not just the ECB and The Hundred that will be keen to get Indian players involved. Clearly, that's a wider discussion,” Harrison said.

The playing conditions of the newer format have witnessed a modification of the existing rules, such as 5 or 10 balls per over, 25-ball powerplay and a change of ends after every 10 balls. The former county cricketer had also remarked that the players will have less time to prepare for the County matches.

"Counties will want the bulk of the T20 Blast to be played in the heart of summer. The new tournament has to feature in that space, and we have Test cricket, too. We cannot achieve everything and there's always going to have to compromise,” he concluded.
