We should seek Pakistan’s ouster from the cricketing committee, says CoA chief Vinod Rai

Following the Pulwama terror attack, the BCCI had mentioned that it has been working with the ICC to sever ties with Pakistan and isolate them from the cricketing committee. The board also thought the idea of giving the foreign players a choice between the PSL and the IPL citing it inappropriate.
The Pulwama terror attack took place on 14 February 2019 killing as much as 40 CRPF personnel when a suicide bomber vehicle caused explosion after contact with a sequence of convoys carrying the army men. The BCCI has been reluctant to forfeit the India-Pakistan clash in the upcoming World Cup and are exploring other options to retaliate without causing any complication to the Indian team.
The BCCI had earlier planned to provide players with a choice to decide between either the Indian Premier League or the Pakistan Super League to play for. But now, the board has dropped the plan saying that it’s inappropriate for BCCI to intervene as the IPL is between the players and the franchises when it comes to participation.
Producers, IMG Reliance had withdrawn from Pakistan Super League earlier and DSport had suspended the telecast of the league in India after the attack. BCCI CEO Rahul Johri had written to the International Cricket Council to sever ties with the countries from which terrorism emanates.
“Why should we shoot ourselves in the foot by not playing? We should seek their (Pakistan’s) ouster and remove them from the cricketing committee and doing so reflects the present-day sentiment of the nation,” said CoA member Vinod Rai while speaking to the Indian Express.
