Amidst all his dwindling batting prowess, MS Dhoni has kept one thing alive which is his ability to run as fast between the wickets. With Virat Kohli at the other end, it became all too easy for him, as the duo converted a non-existent run to a couple and Kohli even attempted to pick up a third.

The first ODI was a forgettable demonstration of Dhoni’s diminishing batting abilities and albeit all his stumping dismissals, which was brilliant, to say the least, he has retained a charm in his running between the wickets. Similarly, Kohli has always been a brilliant runner between the wickets and the partnership, well, was a crash course on how to convert singles to doubles.

But how about converting a non-existent single to a double? That is where the duo’s partnership came to the discussion. On the third ball of the 43rd over, the former Indian wicket-keeper nudged a Peter Siddle back of a length delivery in front of long-on. However, the ball went towards short mid-wicket where taking a single would have been dangerous.

Kohli and Dhoni, however, had complete faith in their abilities as, after a slight mix up in the middle, they ran fast and furious in between the wickets to take a couple of runs. Kohli even wanted a three as he set off for it before realising that it was not possible.
