Defending champions Australia will take on India in the opening game of the Twenty20 World Cup in 2020 in Sydney, ICC announced yesterday. India, who entered the semi-final this year, have been clubbed with Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and one of the qualifying teams in Group A.

The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2020 will take place from February 21, 2020 to March 8, 2020 in Australia, which will be followed by the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2020 from October 18 to November 15. This is the first time in the tournament that the women's and men's T20 World Cups will be held in the same year, same country, but as standalone events after the huge success of the last Women’s World T20 in the Windies.

To get the campaign underway, the Indian women’s team will play Australia in a Group A encounter in Sydney. The eight top women's teams, according to their finishing positions at the World T20 2018, have already gained automatic qualification to the tournament, with the remaining two teams to be determined through a qualifying tournament to be held later in 2019.

The final is set to be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the International Women’s Day, March 8 and the other games will be played in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Perth with the SCG hosting both the semifinals on March 5.
