Australia's assistant coach Ricky Ponting believes that his team winning the big moments in matches has been the telling difference in the tournament. Ponting has also hailed skipper Aaron Finch for his 'outstanding' captaincy and has praised the Victorian for captaining the side proactively.

Ricky Ponting, who successfully led Australia to two World Cups in 2003 and 2007 has taken up the role of Assitant Coach in this campaign, and has been a massive influence for the Aussie side led by Aaron Finch. Speaking to cricket.com.au, the former Aussie skipper expressed his appreciation for Finch, who has led the team front the front with both the bat and on the field.

"The way that Finchy is leading this team now right through this tournament has been outstanding. The way he's using his bowlers and not just using them at the moment, but he's thinking forward in the game as well. He's very in-tune, but he's also very confident in believing in what he thinks is right and going with that," Ponting told cricket.com.au.

With 7 wins from 8 matches, Australia sit on top of the table and Ponting has credited their ability to win big moments in the matches for the success. "The big moments in every game, we've been winning, and that’s the difference in tournament play," Ponting said. "Most games that we've played, there have been moments where the game has been slipping away and we've had to dig really deep and claw our way back into the game, and today was another great example," he added.

One of the more interesting moments in Australia's match against New Zealand was Steve Smith dismissing Colin De Grandhomme, with Finch crediting both Langer and Ponting for the dismissal. When asked about the dismissal, Ponting said "Justin (Langer) was actually behind one today, he was behind Smithy bowling to de Grandhomme when he first came out,".

"We were sitting on the balcony saying, ‘if this comes off, this will be the biggest fluke of all-time.’ Sure enough, the first ball he hit straight down long-off's throat. You could see he was pretty happy about that one," Ponting added.

Ponting also cited the positivity surrounding the team as the primary reason for their success, hailing the good vibes around the team.  "There's some really good vibes around the team. You put all those things in the mixing pot together, it's not rocket science – you're going to get good results." the former Aussie skipper concluded.
