While the usage of DRS has continued to be a hot topic of discussion, it has never ceased to amaze both the players and the viewers. Today, in England's game against the Kiwis, a moment of indecision from Joe Root ended up causing his team a review, as he took the DRS despite a clear nick.

While teams have been very careful and clever in their usage of DRS, there have been moments where they've let their adrenaline take over, ending up costing the team a review. Take for instance Afghanistan's game against Pakistan, where Rashid Khan nailed Imad Wasim right in front of the stumps, only for him to not be able to review it due to his team exhausting their solitary review earlier in the innings. Imad eventually went on to play the decisive knock which won Pakistan the match.

In one such instance in England's game against New Zealand, Root let his emotions get the better of him when he decided to go for a review despite hitting the ball. In the first ball of the 31st over, a determined Trent Boult, who was looking to break the budding partnership between Root and Jonny Bairstow, directed a short ball towards the left shoulder of Root. The English No.3, who tried to hook the ball, ended up getting a slight feather and was instantly ruled out by the on-field umpire as the Kiwis went up instantly.

As soon as the decision was made, Root indicated to his partner with confidence that he thought he didn't hit the ball, going for the review without second thoughts. However, replays from Ultra Edge showed that Root indeed got a slight feather off the ball as the ball passed his bat. As the on-field reaffirmed his decision, all Root could do was walk back to the pavilion in disbelief, not able to believe his luck.

Only time will tell if this review from Root will go on to hurt England later in the innings but one can expect skipper Eoin Morgan to have a word with his talisman to be more careful in such instances in the future.
