According to reports from the IANS, a member from the Indian team management has assured that MS Dhoni’s reported thumb injury was a minor one and he is fit enough to feature in the future games for the team. Dhoni is known to be resilient and has a very positive take on recovering from injuries.

Even though the Indian team booked their ticket to the World Cup semifinals after an impressive win against continental rivals Bangladesh, there were rumours that the team may have to proceed in the tournament without the involvement of influential ex-skipper MS Dhoni.

The veteran wicket-keeper was seen spitting blood against the hosts after he could not judge a ball correctly and it collided against his thumb while behind the wickets. The concerns raised after he took off the field while the Men in Blue were bowling and took a considerable time to return. However, a source from the Indian team management spoke to IANS and ended all such speculations.

“He hails from the mountains and is a warrior. After more than 300 ODIs, do you think these little things even bother him? He has an amazing capacity to ignore pain. But more importantly, his finger is fine and there is nothing to worry about," the source said.

It was later confirmed that the incident against Bangladesh was nothing but a routine loo break, from which the player cannot step onto the field before eight minutes have lapsed as per ICC regulations. Over the course of 15 years, Dhoni has racked up nearly 550 international appearances and has rarely been sidelined by any extensive injuries. While naturally having good immunity, his attitude also has had a big role to play in the same.

"If you wait to be 100 per cent before you play a game maybe you'd have to wait five years before you play the next game. It's something I can afford to do (play with pain)," Dhoni had once said.

India will play their last group stage match on Saturday and will be keen to continue with their good form and end on top of the table. The match is a dead rubber technically considering India has qualified while the Lions have already been eliminated. However, a win will boost the Men in Blue’s morale as they head towards the business end of the mega event.
